First and foremost with this brand-new-first-time-on-vinyl-reissue of The Shadow Ring’s 4th LP, I’m struck by the suggestion that Hold Unto I.D is something of an outlier and an overlooked piece in their opaque puzzle - as for myself this acted as an invigorating and immediate introduction to one of the most crucial encounters with music I have ever experienced.
It feels slightly off to describe this malaise of collapsing guitars, shrapnel tape synth and dead-eyed surrealist tales of nautical domesticity as life affirming - but foaming at the sides and just beneath the surface you’ll find a true face, you must watch the water. Blockade. Block it out. Black it out. Black out. Now. Do It Now.
I presume with this sort of thing you are either in or out, but our advice is to take the plunge and float for a while..(Mint / New)
