The joy of discovering a new artist! Original copies of Nagoya’s singer/songwriter Nana Horisaki’s utterly enchanting debut album ‘Pot’.
Since laying first ears on Horisaki’s ‘Scoppi’ tape towards the back end of last year, there’s been a strong urge for more. Released back in 2019 on micro label Haptic Perception, ‘Pot’ is an 8-piece collection of playful and imaginative songs - not quite pop, not quite folk, not especially lo-fi but operating in a strange venn diagram like zone where the best of all these qualities overlap. Seemingly a pleasant collection of guitar / vocal recordings, there’s a subtle undercurrent of strange mischief in Horisaki’s songwriting that keeps the ear locked in and begging for more. I dunno.. there’s something in the odd structures, it darting between tonal / atonality, a certain restlessness or even a niggling sense of self-consciousness or being slightly awkward that makes you want to listen to these songs over and over. Can’t get enough!!! (Mint / New - 1 per person pls)
