Killer Fourth world exotica 7" privately released by L.A. saxophonist Sam Gendel.
Everything Sam Gendel does seems touched with a certain warm and weird magic. This scarily short run 7" (already sold out at source) is no exception. On the A side, queasily lush treated saxophone slides across brushed drums and shuffling bass evoking the airy bitmapped future of the early home computer era and David Lynch Hollywood dread. The flip separates everything out a bit. Martin Denny tiki percussion bumps through a beat tape filter and the same eerie digitally smudged brass snakes in. Then a naggingly familiar cocktail party riff appears (can’t quite, at this moment, place it - answers on a post card…) and slowly slides downhill, breaking apart into a ghost of itself. In fact, the whole record shifts out of the ether like some kind of apparition at a seance on a wet Los Angeles afternoon. Imagine the music in a bad dream made-for-TV movie about Donald Fagan’s childhood and you’re halfway there.. (Mint / New - Super limited!!! Hence price :-/ )
