Complete mindblower collection of traditional music spread throughout the Islamic world on the incredible 6-part series from Tangent. This one focuses on the variety found within the event present flute and trumpet groups of instruments spanning from Morocco in the west to Rajasthan, India in the east. From from a dry ethnographic account of these areas, most of the recordings were captured during religious festivals, people's homes, weddings, ceremonies, etc etc, providing a spirited snap-shot and brief window into this rich, commonly misunderstood musical world. There's a consistent thread running throughout, often in the root of the instruments that are over a thousand years old, but the variations that have developed as cultures and diasporas have disseminated over the years is MESMERISING. Backed throughout by detailed liner notes and descriptions too..no sound clips online but for anyone into traditional musics, this one will ruin you guaranteed. (Vinyl & Sleeve VG+++).
