A sacred transmission from Time Is Away, captured live in Florence’s San Francesco De’ Macci.
It’s true that set and setting is everything. Just over one year ago, a small group of dedicated musical disciples gathered late on Saturday morning inside a 14th Century church on the outskirts of the Tuscan capital. It’s hard to imagine a better location to be immersed in the duo’s distinctive sound assemblages. The pace here is slow, deliberate, patient. Sounds specifically selected for their sonic properties. Utilising the natural resonance of the grand soundings, sparse classical pieces gently melt into elegiac solo vocal, and weeping cello. Brass notes soar amongst the disorientating sound of galloping horses. It’s a sequence of music that seems to breath as one organism, where silence holds the same sense of gravity as when the arrangement is at its most dense. A fleeting encounter, but one that’ll surely live on long in the memories of those lucky enough to be in attendance. (Mint / New - with free DL).
