From the fertile underbelly of Madrid’s DIY scene! Another hit from the excellent F.T.C.N Ediciones (those might remember that FORTUNA tape a while back??), who presents new a duo project from ANF regularly appearer Mario Mirón and Nicolás Pagadi. Salade consolidates the duo’s shared passion for traditional instruments and folkloric traditions, yet rather than merely retrace the past and regurgitate what’s been already done, they seek to advance these elements to pastures new. It certainly sounds like no mean feat, although each of the 8 piece here without a doubt feel like an evolution of a well-known language - aching hurdy-gurdy rubbing up against synthetic textures from Rolando Juno. On paper it sounds jarring, although it’s all wonderfully infused and the unusual textures sit well together. More importantly though is the duo’s decision to encapsulate this new contemporary folklore within the parameters of a song - there’s no shortage of open-ended improv of this sort which is often pretty meh. Try to imagine Remy Couvez, Pascal Gaigne, DDAA and Nina Harker locked into a telekinetic jam and you’re not far off. Worth the entry alone for the insane drum machine stutter track at the end! Salade is a musical project formed by Mario Mirón and Nicolás Pagadi in 2025 in Madrid. It emerges from a shared interest in traditional instruments and experimental textures, exploring the meeting point between tradition and contemporary language.
Their music is built through a combination of acoustic and electronic elements, born out of improvisation. Rather than reproducing folklore, Salade treats it as a living material, recontextualizing it within their own unique language.
