Teccchhhnoooo!! Four cuts from across the spectrum from Detroit master producer / DJ Claude Young on this mid 90’s 12” via Daniel Bell’s excellent 7th City Label. Title track ‘Acid Wash Conflict’ lets off a squirming, constantly modulating acid line on-top of a ruff 4/4 stomp, restlessly morphing and shifting throughout for perfect DJ layering, whilst ‘Wind Up’ opens up in a fidget with skimming percussion before *those chords* transform the whole thing into one of the finest pieces of Motor City machine soul. Over on the flip, ‘Flat 36’ is a masterclass in tension, channelling the spirit of the production line with steady hydraulics building and building but never paying off, whereas ‘Soundscape’ stalks the late night cityscape - a genuinely perfect piece of mind-travelling ambient techno. Struggling to think of many better 12”s to come out of Detroit… (NM/NM)
