There are very few records that scare us - but Ghédalia Tazartès' iconic 1979 debut Diasporas is still terrifying. Highly underground, cult release of the avant-garde originally privately released on French imprint Cobalt in '79, the nomadic Tazartes' singular approach to 'music' literally sounds like NOTHING else, fusing demonic howling with ancient Parisian folk, tape loops, intrepid electronic and acoustic sound and a genuine sense of otherness. The late French artist channels the spirit of a possessed, dislocated wanderer, trying to make sense of the rapidly fading traditions of his families’ past through hacksawn collage arrangements and tormented vocal incantations. Mysterious, enigmatic and arcane, this one continues to live in the hearts of those never satisfied with the norm. Approach with caution, you’ll never been the same again. (NM/VG+ - French original on Cobalt - some humid spots on the cover, see pic).
