A typical dose of Hector Zazou magic on this early, uncatagorisable anti-pop masterpiece together with Joseph Racaille (ZNR - geddit!). Rightly occupying a place on the prestigious NWW list, Barricade 3 is a slippery, genre-swerving piece that clashes typical prog / avant-rock tropes with jazz influences, odd analogue electronics with a heavy helping of eccentric Satie-styled touches and an air of breezy European cafe culture mystique. Nebulas of idiosyncratic, abstract electronics and spontaneous piano études eventually coalesce into an actual songs - like the priceless electric guitar / synth hybrid ‘La Pointe De Tes Seins Est Comme Un Petale De Pavot’ or the stoned, dream-like rock lullaby ‘Solo Un Dia’ that carries us off and away on a cloud. It’s a record that gives something different each time, creating it’s own unique habitat much like Mark Hollander and Ask Maboul sprawling prime-number epic ‘Onze Danses Pour Combattre La Migraine’, Nuno Cannavaro’s outlier ‘Plux Quba’ or the intrepid, unconventional styles of Leven Signs.
