Cult one-off 7” artefact from the fertile 1980s underground of Mexico City.
Vistas Fijas - fixed views - was an ephemeral collaboration between three key figures within Mexico’s experimental underground DIY scene - Armando Velasco, Carlo Salinas and Rolando Chia. Despite the restrictive 7” format, it’s a sprawling and diverse collection, ranging from spangled minimal synth pieces, gauzy ambient passages and strange stuttered uncatagorisable electronic/acoustic hybrids. Chia’s sublime guitar skills cut through on closer ‘Dias De Margarita’ with its crisp drum programming against elegiac notes adding to a strong Cluster-esque Europe endless feel. Equally indebted to the traditions of North American experimentalism and the European avant-garde, Vistas Fijas offers a rare view into an important scene making its mark in time, rich in innovation and imagination yet often overshadowed by more familiar, easier to access territories.
