A totally stunning compilation of evergreen dazed garage ballads on Efficient Space, just in time for cardigan season.

I had always thought the world of collecting 60s singles was sewn up. The same six boomer Atlantic executives circling round the upper reaches of Popsike, peeling off five figures for a styrofoam 7. A closed book, and a fairly dull one at that. Likewise the world of compilations based around this stuff. Pebbles/Rubble/Nuggets/Fading Yellow/Chocolate Soup for Diabetics spinning on and on into the sunset. I guess I was wrong. It makes sense that this comp is on the same label that gave us the blessed Sky Girl, because precisely the same happy/sad magic dust is being sprinkled liberally here. Swiss collector Ivan Liechti has put together a truly lovely selection of songs. He seems to specialise in uncovering the lovelorn autumnal ballads rather than the fuzzy uptempo stuff that normally gets garage collectors frothing. It’s tough to pick a favourite here. The whole compilation sits so well together, conjuring up a mood of hushed, slightly spooked, sad sack perfection. A future classic... (Mint / New)
