Ermm.. WOW.. Dutch label Knekelhuis drafts in a staggeringly broad range of artists - both new, old, and (to me at least) totally unknown for a refreshing snapshot of the labyrinthine scene of contemporary DIY producers. The nine pieces herein feel trapped within their own introverted sphere, far from unaware of the outside world, but certainly with a sense of content from just doing their own thing - high praise to the curation skills and vision of Knekelhuis no doubt, who join the dots between the pensive, slo-burning folk opener from XIII, Ike Zwanikken’s 1991-esque burned out dream-vision and the brooding, O Yuki Conjugate-inspired post-industrial ambient lullaby from Troth. Forlag For Fri Musik associates Treasury Of Puppies make their first appearance outside of their Gothenburg bubble with a continuation of their woozy, synth cords / spoken word miniatures, whilst the prolific, long-active sound artist Michel Banabila contributes of his typically collaged, electro-acoustic pieces to the set. Trying to keep tabs on artists working within their own silos is no easy task, ‘And Felt Like…’ feels like a perfectly executed, cross-cultural document of where we’re at right now.. (Mint / New).
