Label: Piano – Piano 002 Format: Vinyl, 12" Country: UK Released: 1980 Genre: Rock Style: Minimal, Experimental
Major curveball on David Cunningham’s iconic Piano label, the second release in 1980 coming from the late British experimental film maker Tony Sinden.
Stripped-bare, unadorned, unembellished guitar movements cut straight to the jugular. There’s absolutely no added extra’s here, Sinden’s minimalistic patterns feel like a meditative exercise in concentration, allowing the raw tone of the guitar and repeated phasing to alter your perception of space and time. A-sider Swing Guitars is a SLOW, almost snail-pace expanse dialled into the same recurring motif, always the same but weirdly modulating and morphing. Drift Guitars on the other-side is a more urgent dervish that hammers the same three strings repeatedly without letting off the pace. A strange and mysterious one reveals its inner magical qualities on extended repeat listens. Incredible design. (NM/NM)
