Knock-out, revelatory compilation focusing on little-known Leeds DIY synth enthusiast Tim Stebbing, the first release on London imprint Ceres Motion. Very much part of that priceless crop of home-brewed, anorak electronic music constructed in musky home studios once the day job is done, mostly enabled through the influx of cheaper Japanese synthesisers hitting British shores from the mid-80's onwards, Stebbing takes obvious influence from the psychotropic Berlin-School electronics of Schulze / Tangerine Dream yet with a distinctly British and somewhat LONELY take on the whole thing. Whereas some of the Berlin School can be a bit too rich now - a product of guys probably getting too carried away with their new techy toys, here we get pieces of atmospheric brooding melancholia, stripped-back minimalistic rhythms and even when he does try to take it a little more KoSmIcHe - it's done in such a restrained way to ensure it doesn't go off as quick as that carton of milk you left out of the fridge over the weekend. Needless to with the original recordings existing only on self-produced / designed cassettes and distributed through murky, pre-internet subterranean trading networks, given to mates or most likely LOST - much credit to Ceres Motion for shredding some light on an interesting character in the canon of British electronic music. (Mint / NEW).
