Label: Kye – KYE 705 Format: Vinyl, 7", Limited Edition Country: US Released: 2012 Genre: Rock Style: Experimental
We’re still knee deep in the Kye label deadstock, so feels like a good time to share this little 7” nugget from back in 2012.The Bowles were a short-lived trio from Sydney, so short-lived in fact they only mustered this sole release and maybe a couple of live shows together, but they consisted Chris Schueler, Mary MacDougall and Matthew Hopkins who in various combinations have released as the sainted Vincent Under The Sink or more recently as Warm Currency on Horn Of Plenty. At six short tracks, noisy pressed with scant regard for fidelity, it still feels like a complete release - loose and scrappy yet totally endearing art songs worked out on the fly littered with warbling cheap synth tones and kitchen bin drums. The two tape pieces that conclude each side are short and mysterious, more atmosphere based as if someone’s left a mic on in a different room. It’d be good if they went on for another 10 minutes but I guess that’s the charm of this one off 7” - never quite giving enough but leaves you wanting more. Heads up for anyone into Shadow Ring, Flaming Tunes or one-off NZ lathe cuts.. not got many!(Mint / New - with postcard).
