Japan’s Tatsuhiko Sakamoto - hairstylist, uber-digger and onetime contributor to our own in house mix series Tabi Tapes, takes a second deep dive into the extensive Italian music library Nuovo Repertorio Editoriale with this CD compilation of the label’s most slept on gems. Heavily associated with Italian state TV corporation RAI, pieces often appeared on Italy television shows across the country throughout the late 80’s and 90s. Here Tatsu combs through the sprawling catalogue, plucking out prime, glossy, synth-pop and experimental gems - shifting from polished electronic arpeggios for the upwardly mobile elite, to fantasied African downtempo drum machine skits and squeaky-clean, dead-behind-the-eyes musak / pop. There’s something quite unapologetically geeky and uncool about the whole thing - obsessively raking through music libraries won’t get you lots of friends, money or fame, but we’re thankful that Tatsu has taken the time to share these otherwise impossible to find outliers with us..
