Second instalment of nocturnal dream-folk from the enigmatic Ssabae for the great Few Crackles label.
It’s another batch of irresistibly intimate yet psychologically expansive commune folk, which smelts down the flickers of loose free jazz, disorientating concrète chaos, unbridled experimentation and extra-sensory field recordings with a remarkable sense of mise-en-scene. Like all the best music, it’s impossible to place but unmistakably new, whilst conjuring up a sense so many of our favourite musical touchpoint of the last 40 years. Pierre Mariétan seminal Rose Des Vents, the environmental works of Michel Chion and Jean Schwarz, Fontain & Areski, Tassos Chalkias’ timeless recordings from Epirus. We could go on. But as with the first bout ‘Azurescens’, it’s best to allow the music to just take over and take you away, without the need for overly intense dissection. This one is just really special.
