Immense, otherworldly imaginary landscaping from Quebec’s tireless aural excavator and experimental music savant Snows Ov Gethen. The true essence of Tabi Tapes?
Now 24 entries strong, in-house guerrilla mixtape series Tabi Tapes was established in essence to highlight interesting (and perhaps lesser know) people with interesting record collections. The kind so immersed in what they’re doing that they may even forget to let people know they’re doing it. Snows Ov Gethen’s eponymous website (and accompanying social media) is an enveloping and often daunting portal into the furthest flung corners of obscure music covering the past 70 years to present day. Always accompanied by insightful writing, delving into the site is a humbling and eye-opening encounter, even for the most intrepid sonic explorers. The 90 minute mix weaves through shades of light and dark, threaded with evocative folk music from near, far and unknown. Natural sounds lay the foundations for wistful piano notes, hovering aeolian harp drones and scatterings of early music. It’s a vivid, bewildering montage - the perfect base to project the visual sequence of your own choosing. It’s never a bad thing to be reminded that this world of music is infinite.
