Achingly beautiful masterworks of Italian minimalism from Florence-based contemporary classical composer turned architect Roberto Donnini.  Taking huge influence from the first wave of American minimalism, and after having spent time in Europe exchanging ideas with Steve Reich, La Monte Young and Charlemagne Palestine - Donnini set up his own Lynx Records private press to release the work of his own and Italian musicians such as Giuseppe Morrocchi, Lino Capra Vaccina and Arturo Stalteri who were all interested in working with the same ideas.  Released in 1992 ‘Fluxmar’ comes 12 years after Donnini’s titanic (and beyond impossible to find) Tunedless debut, exploring the same systems-based composition that involves various players improvising to the same computerised click-track without hearing the other musicians play.  A huge number of players get involved, each offering their own pieces - piano, voice, harmonica, tuba, electric piano and more - whilst Donnini drifts between each element, arranging a dream-like, tantric collage that dissolves quite hardcore academic compositional ideas into a floating tapestry that feels like it could amble on into infinity.  Presented with no-expense-spared, individually hand-painted, hand-numbered gatefold sleeve, Fluxmar is a true centrepiece of Italy’s rich legacy of contemporary minimalism.. (NM/NM - unplayed deadstock copy)
