All-timer in the canon of the 70's American avant-garde, Robert Ashley's 'Automatic Writing' explores the use of human sounds and the malleability of language to intimate, yet often unsettling effect.  It's AMSR before it was even recognised as a thing, Ashley uses the involuntary utterances triggered from his tourettes syndrome to weave an unexpected narrative, mixed with gentle mise-en-scene electronics that draw you in.  Steven Stapleton of NWW famously said... "A Missing Sense was originally conceived as a private tape to accompany my taking of LSD. When in that particular state, Robert Ashley's Automatic Writing was the only music I could actually experience without feeling claustrophobic and paranoid. We played it endlessly; it seemed to become part of the room, perfectly blending with the late night city ambience and the 'breathing' of the building."  Yeah!  (NM/NM - Lovely Music OG)
