Rimarimba returns! A genuine unicorn LP from big shop favourite Robert Cox who was kind enough to make his live performance debut here after 50+ years recording in total obscurity out in Felixstow. His sole LP for the cult Cordelia Records released in 1985 is a playful array of minimalist composition that shows Cox’s unique ear for melody and how they sit within systems-based structures. Each within their own mighty max styled environments, complex rhythms toy with the use of repetition, interlocking with sugar-sweet synth melodies whilst perky guitar motifs dance in and out of the gaps. It feels like an obvious reaction to the minimalist movement pioneered by the likes of Steve Reich / Terry Riley, or even The Lost Jockey that arrived just a few years earlier, but Cox’s homemade reinterpretation made way out on the coast in East Anglia captures the unmistakable charm of eccentric British home recording artists who could have easily never been discovered. A true cult classic.. (NM / NM) - RARE OG TAPE
