Releases from the West Mineral / Motion Ward / Experience Ltd nebula seem to be coming thick and fast but it feels that Pontiac Streator has really crystallised the best elements within these outposts here with the Triz LP.Densely packed sonic landscapes that shift in texture and mood, drawing obvious comparisons and paying homage to the bubbling dub / glitch abstractions cooked up by Vladislav Delay on Chain Reaction some 20 years earlier, whilst nodding to the introspective tones of Dan Abrams / Shuttle 358 / Pole along the way.But it’s definitely its own thing - a heavy-set, opiated ‘ambience’ that feels like a vital companion to the 2020 cluster-fuck, with the squirming drift of opener ‘cum angelus (damn)’, drugged trip-hop tinged ‘triz cohors pt 3’ or deeper ‘om ne ud’ that feels like drifting in the infinity of hyperspace.Swerving the often obtuse, overly abstract or conceptualised nature of this stuff, Streator crutially pays more attention to the mood, tone and direction of his beastly debut 2LP instead of indulging himself on his own production skills, adding a rare human feel and lining it up for repeat playback. One that’ll age well.. (Mint / New).
