Tsuki No Wa, a transnational musical collective that connects Argentine acoustics, ambient jazz, and even Frank Sinatra, has been garnering attention over the past two years with reissues of their albums "Ninth Elegy" (2000) and "Moon Beams" (2003). Vocalist Fuminosuke, lauded by Calm as "possessing one of the most incredible voices of our time," and fellow group member Hiromitsu Shoji (attc, Maher Shalal Hash Baz, pagtas), launched the Japanese acoustic folk gem "Natsume" in 1999 as a duo. This obscure masterpiece, which could be called "music of remembrance," from 2003, has miraculously been released on vinyl for the first time by Sad Disco!
Dubbed a "sonic folk paradise," Flowers of Marrakech is a monumental work in Japanese psychedelic folk music, long lost to history after a CD-only release on the prestigious noble label under Midi Creative. Based on field recordings from India and Karuizawa, the album blends sitar, tambura, various ethnic instruments, and electronic processing to create a dreamlike, floating feeling.
While cloaked in a tranquil, mystical psychedelia reminiscent of Tsuki No Wa and Sakana, the sonic beauty of the album, combining nostalgia and a sense of foreignness, is exquisite.
