Mid 90’s Muslimgauze 7” written, played and recorded here in the dreary, beloved city of Manchester, put out via the short-lived Jara Discs label.Stylistically different on both sides, this one captures the prolific artist beginning to shift from the raw, punk-infused, tribal-percussive sound of self-released Limited Editions releases of the late 80’s to a more narcotic, dub-saturated approach due to the advent of digital recording technology. The A-side let’s off two splashy, slooowww-motion industrial pieces with hypnotic drum loops and swirling Middle Eastern samples set into a typically ominous, foreboding atmosphere, whilst the B-side piece 'Thugghee' goes full opium-den for close to 8 mins with that classic later days Muslimgauze sound associated with the Veiled Sisters or Betrayal CDs.Properly hypnotic, droning drum loops with shimmering, reversed-hi-hat clips and distant mysterious murmurs in the back.OBSESSED.(NM/NM)
