Totally overlooked, nigh on giveaway early ambient compilation put together by Mille Plateaux, bringing together an all-star cast for a suite of varied remixes / re-improvisations of source material mined from Markus Popp and Jan St. Werner's Microstoria project. Each artist takes a different route entirely, manipulating and re-rendering the source material beyond recognition, whilst keeping the abstract nature of the original at arms length. Highlights a plenty, but special mentions to Jim O'Rourke's de-constructed orchestral version and Stereolab's first ever remix, whilst Oval's 'Runtime Engine' reworks hovering, glitch-riddled static fuzz into a beautiful, unexpected moment of nostalgia.
