Really blown away by this one - a recent discovery from a friend of a friend of a friend who found it the old-fashioned way on a post-gig merch stand in Paris and was gracious enough to share with us. Megabasse is the solo alias of guitarist Pierre Bujeau who’s connected to the great French groups Tanz Mein Herz and Omertà. The self-explanatorily titled ‘Live In Bruges’ is a 30 minute tone float of prepared guitar strings rich in tone and texture. Swirling overtones create a soft dream-like foundation for the gently repetitious guitar notes to drift along on, stretching space and time whilst softly diffusing into the ether. It’s the sorta stuff that could just play on endlessly, reminding us strongly of the sainted electronic lyre recordings from French Demi-god Pierre Jean Croset, or moments on that great Sage Alyte LP from few years back. Can’t think of a better reason to break your format bias - yes it’s a CD! (Mint / New - with free DL).
