Still In Your Pocket is Karla’s solo debut recording, first appearing as a short run cassette via Entr’acte then later as a full vinyl run from Sean McCann’s excellent Recital label, yet her involvement in other musical projects spans extensive projects such as Idea Fire Company, Tart (with Graham Lambkin), The Pickle Factory (whose Our Anthems LP is still very much slept on) and many others. Her focus here is solely on the piano with a series of minimalist pieces, laced with repetition and played with sense of restraint and patience that really allows the melodies and overtones of her instrument resonate within the atmosphere. Reduced down to reveal their own charm, each of her pieces lilt with a gentle sadness, glowing with a melancholy of times gone by whilst nodding to Satie’s timeless piano compositions, or eternal works of Dominique Lawalrée or that mythical Colette Roper record.
