Late night drawl folk collages via Chilean underground outfit Glorias Navales, mined out of the seminal Kye label back catalogue - a total hidden gem.
The debut release from the Santiago-based group, ‘Cofradia Nautica’ collates recordings captured from local live-shows and their private recording space. It draws upon traditional folklore and paganism, rooted in the soil of their native land and the feeling of being in the moment - executed with an awareness / appreciation of Velvet Underground / Tony Conrad. The loose yet repetitious nature of the music lends itself to a lo-fi sense of wooly hpynotism, each player seems simultaneously in and out of sync with each other as if they’re feeling their way through the sound naturally. The atmospheric audience murmurs, barking of dogs in the background and general background clatter adds a layer of intimacy, projecting us far away into the Chilean outback - if only for a moment. This one really, really hit hard the first time around, a true gem hiding in plain site.. (Mint / new - unplayed stock copies).
