Homespun psychedelic world-building from Danish improv duo Global Guaranty Orchestra.

There’s certainly a fine line between pure art and making an annoying racket at home.  This 1984 debut on the short-lived Ninth World Music label straddles the line careful, but is certainly within pure art territory.  A total genre-collapsing, multi-instrumental flurry of steel drums and percussion, often improvised but always with a sense restraint and an awareness of structure.  Swathes of ethnic percussion and erratic dynamics make for a culturally disorientating trip into terra incognita.  Similarly to Másik János’ uncatagorisable Hungarian monster Trance Balance, we’re left flailing in open water even attempting to understand this one.  Brave, bizarre, outlandish home made music - paste on sleeve, all different we think!  (NM)
