Giulio’s back!

Dubbed-out-to-death and too-cool-for-school, Erasmus adds another rivet in the chain to strengthen the Manchester (Factory) <-> Belgium (Benelux) connection with this new offering his newly congregated band The End Of The Worm.

Erasmus floored us out of nowhere sometime last year with his debut proper ‘Second Attempt’, which was without a doubt one of the finest releases of 2024.  Now, keeping good company his freshly assembled group he’s able to slip into more slouched, languorous zones.  The group manage to sound effortlessly freeform and blown-out, whilst ensuring each of the tracks are contained into bitesize hit that never ventures over the 3 and half minute mark.  Erasmus’ scorched and unaffected vocals instantly recalls Charles Bullen and his early 80s masterpiece as Lifetones, in fact so many of our dearest musical touch points are so instantly tweaked when listening to this that it’s hard to believe it’s out now, here.. TODAY.  Window’s ‘Creation Rebel’ from that Uppers On Downers LP, the Y Records sound, General Strike, EP-4, Leven Signs, the list goes on.  Yet Erasmus & co feel unconcerned with the weight of their stylistic predecessors, instead focusing on dismantling time, space and sounds of the past and rebuilding them in their own way.  It’s just so good and one we have no sense of trepidation mentioning in the same breath of such holy company above.  Ask yourself, when was the last time you heard something so cooly accomplished and immediately seductive?  No brainer.  (Mint / New)

/////

The Manchester-born, Brussels-shaped Giulio Erasmus plays with time, space, era, and the words that weave it all together.
After two solo records released on Mangel Records & Absolute Fiction (plus a freshly unveiled live album from Meakusma 2024), he now - joined by the quintet The End of The Worm - presents his new offering: Hard Sell.

A redigestion of forty years of underground English culture, collided by the urgency and freedom of Brussels' new wave; Hard Sell is an exploration led by a bassline that acts like a compass - around which swirl whispers, cut-ups, abstractions, percussion bursts and sudden clearings.
Together they shape a quiet narration, murmuring possible futures, indifferent to any of their consent.
