Ecstatic and intrepid experiments for vocals and tape from the late artistic singularity and autodidactic Ghédalia Tazartès. His self-titled forth LP released in 1987 is an arresting, visceral experience - combining the artist’s ritualistic, nomadic vocal wanderings with raw tape loops and rough-hewn rhythmic spats to form a series of paralysing incantations that feels at times that Tazartès is thoroughly possessed and acting as a conduit for an ancient primordial spirit. Singing in his mother tongue of Ladino (an ancient Judeo-Spanish language passed down from his Spanish-Jewish parents), the wide-range of impulsive, impressionistic tones /textures conjured up from deep within his vocal chords take on a shaman-like quality, combing pain, confusion, loss and ecstasy all together into an alchemical mix, whilst the cut-up / collaged feel adds to the unsettled tone or feeling of displacement that echoes his own intra-European heritage. A total head-melter that tangles the roots of musique concrete, folk, DIY and early techno in its own idiosyncratic and unforgettable way. Personal all timer!!! (NM / NM - with insert)
