Scarcely seen, privately released LP from short-lived Kiwi outfit Drone with their '89 self-titled debut LP. The cover could set you off on the wrong path here as it definitely gives off the favour of some harrowing dark-ambient group, but actually it's a suite of experimental rock offerings, mainly focusing on acoustic / electric guitar, often with odd sound-bytes, mostly instrumental but with occasional vocals. There's definitely a few standouts, like the hypnotic 'Music For Guitar + Piano' that employs repeating strings and minimal spoken word to deadly effect with an interesting switch-up halfway through to more blissed-out pastures, and the slightly mournful / melancholic 'Gay Gordons' on the other side with killer female vox. Interesting record in lesser-trawled waters. (Vinyl NM / Sleeve VG+).
