How did the work of Dominique Lawalrée remain unknown for so long? The Belgian artist spent most of their career cloistered away privately releasing their music via their own Editions Walrus label, now sadly since his passing in 2019 it seems the world is finally catching up. This 1980 release Vice-Versa captures four compositions for piano where you can feel the influence of Satie and the aesthetics of 'musique d'ameublement' or wallpaper music at their most undiluted. But there is a unique sense of surreality and intimacy within Lawalrée’s playing that draws us in - at first seemingly simplistic but on closer inspection revealing complex timbres and a poetic sense of pacing that reveals the artist’s genuine outsider spirit. Eternal music.. (VG++/VG+ - rare // very quite pressing, some light noise)
