Beautiful and profound works of minimalism from the late, widely heralded Belgian composer Dominique Lawalrée.  Self-released via his own now highly collectable Editions Walrus press in 1976, ‘Infinitudes’ is the first available recording from the prolific artist and is a masterpiece of contemporary classical where we’re able to immerse ourselves in dream-like solo piano composition executed with virtuoso technique and a heavy feeling of seclusion.  Taking the entire A-side ‘Solitudes Oubliées (n° 31; 1975)’ drifts from wandering, yearning ivory-key motifs to a surprising organ passage in the middle, before slipping back into sparse, near-empty moments of barely-there percussion.  Lawalrée’s use of space, time and atmosphere in his compositions are unrivaled, and it’s hard to think of another artist who truly embodies the ‘outsider’ spirit, both in sound and spirit, throughout their entire life.   Subtly sublime and intimate, like secretly listening in to a true master in their element - nothing quite like it.  (NM / VG++ - hand painted sleeve, some light noise in the quiet parts due to mastering - it’s a very quiet record)
