The best album from an artist we love.

Lawalrée’s Clandestin collects up private recordings made from the late 70s to early 80s, capturing a more experimental phase in the late Belgian composer’s life before shifting to a more traditionally ‘classical’ era on organ and solo piano.  More than any artist we’ve encountered, Lawalrée’s minimal, inward-gazing compositions have the ability to suspend time.  Now on electric piano / Wurlitzer, his playing is achingly pensive, reflective yet touchingly beautiful.  The slight inconsistancies in the spacing between each note, they all seem to arrive fractionally too late, almost as if he’s dreaming up where to go and letting his hands follow naturally.  Occasionally, the hubbub of the outside world is subtly collaged into the recordings - church bells, a car zooming by - but always from the perspective of a person on the inside gazing outwards and with track titles like ‘Do Not Disturb’, it’s clear that he was endlessly content hermetically sealed in his own private universe with a piano, paper, pencil and his precious Beatles recordings.  Very special record.  (NM/VG+ - vinyl clean, sleeve has slight tape on bottom)
