Recorded with a genuine economy of means, namely two 1210’s and a budget 2 channel mixer, Trystero keeps it rough n’ ready, embracing the natural un-quantised drift of turntables and harnessing the magic of the groove. Those familiar with Trystero’s productions will sense their youthful diet of dusty Chain Reaction 12”s, NWAQ, Porter Ricks or the more recent West Mineral sect, but the sequence here suggests a technique and approach older than their years. It bucks the trend of the sanitised BPM-locked CDJ blend-a-thon and the pitched-down chug, instead channelling the less fashionable spirit of Jeff Mill’s Purpose Maker mix or the ghost of Claude Young at The Orbit (Leeds). Fully dynamic, energetic and impellent from the off, it’s gristly in parts but when it all locks in.. *** bliss ***.
