Mesmerising electronic dervishes from Romanian composer Costin Miereanu self-published as part of his own private Poly-Art Series.
The second LP in a series of four pieces composed for the 1984 ‘Blow-Up’ series, Miereanu’s transcendental movements on the Prophet X synth occupy territory all on their own. The 22+ minute expanse of Nuages-Nuages (Clouds-Clouds) is a deluge of billowing synthetic tones that cluster and pass like masses of vapour trapped in the air. Or as Costin wonderfully describes it ‘cloud movements and fleecy forms gliding by, juxtapositions and reverse movement, diffracting beams’. Carrousel on the other-side is a different beast altogether, functioning as a generative musical programming. Beginning calmly as a collection of scattered / warbling synth notes before spiralling out into an ecstatic / hallucinogenic dance for the mind. It’s a taut exercise in release and control, utilising repetition and discursive wanderings to create a wonderland you could happily float in for eternity. Pure high-art music geekery that we’ll never tire of… (NM/NM - top archive copy, vinyl looks unplayed, cover intact apart from slight discolouration on the edges).
