Much sought-after seminal deep house 12" from US-born, Japanese-based artist Terre Thaemlitz acting as DJ Sprinkles. This one offers two cuts and a Kuniyuki remix from the holy and widely heralded (for good reason!) album Midtown 120 Blues.Thaemlitz's ability to elicit this unique sense of melancholy and sadness (so much sadness!) from what is essential 'club' music AND infuse it with historical context and opinions of the genre itself is entirely unique, no more so than on wistful A-side piece 'Ball'r (Madonna Free Zone)' which redefines the word 'deep' in house music and takes a surgically precise swipe at the history of NYC clubbing, but mostly Madonna. Equally pensive cut 'Brenda's 20$ Dilemma' is hallmark Spinkles, with a meandering flute amidst swirling piano cords and probing, sub-sonic depth-charge bass prods whilst Kuniyuki's 'Dub' mix of the same (which only appears on this 12") manages to retain the same inexplicable sense of deepness whilst adding a mish-mash of rolling percussion and elevate it to more palpable dance-floor xones. One getting better with age this one, increasingly pricey :( .. (Vinyl NM- ((some very, very light markings but plays clean, in plain sleeve).
