Effortlessly / subtly sublime lo-fi song craft from Aussie underground lynchpin Carla dal Forno on our in-house mixtape series Tabi Tapes, now entering it’s teenage years.
As a producer, song-writer and multi-instrumentalist Carla dal Forno requires no introduction. But as a DJ, her mixes or long-running radio show have been a permanent source of inspiration and solace for us. Fully imbedded within the DIY scene down-under and further afield, Carla’s ear for new (or easily overlooked) music is razorsharp. Much of the one hour sequence she’s threaded together shares similar DNA to that of her own productions - gently bummed-out, vulnerable, gritty, haunting, but self-assured and unflappably cool.
As such, we’re treated to rough nuggets from the antipodean underground in and amongst shop favourites from Hirakawa Izumi, Fulmars and more, whilst the show-stopping unreleased demo of Carla’s own nestled within is enough of a reason to get involved. Crafting a mood and within a world of sound is an art and few have done it better than here. Contemplative, melancholic yet driven by overcoming the anxieties of everyday life - just like being sat on the shore gazing out to sea. Too special. (Mint / New - with free DL)
