Hark!!! Michael Tanner (aka Plinth, RIP) assembles an enchanting collection of early music, specially 5th to 15th century, under his Cantus Orbis side-arm for in-house ANF mixtape series Tabi Tapes.
Tanner’s obsession with medieval music permeates much of his own work, most notably his incredible Plinth project which is now sadly defunct. But regardless, we’re left quite speechless at this expertly assembled array of lilting instrumental song and choral chanting he’s put together. It’s a deeply absorbing and at times transcendent collage of a musical scene we actually have close to zero knowledge on. What a joy it is to revel in the sounds of the renaissance and earlier, Tanner maintains a smooth and steady pace, constructing a world around him through ancient chant and hammered psaltry. A genuine masterclass in a musical world few are brave enough to really dive inside.. (Mint / New - with free DL)
