Blue Lake’s third, two sprawling and sparkling zither pieces surround a stunning misty miniature.
Reading Sleeping is the final part of a trilogy of solo releases by Jason Dungan also of improvising collective Squares and Triangles. This time it’s a tape, again in a tiny private run. Here the focus is tighter and the music more sparse, the key is balance and structure. A pair of drifting zither pieces, all light reflected off water and shivering leaf shadow, bookend a short jewel-like percussion and clarinet piece that is the perfect unstable centre. The sun dips behind the clouds and softly tumbling Harry Parch percussion is joined by two milky clarinet lines that could have come straight out of a Moondog record. And before we know it then we are back in the sunlit playroom.
