Mutant no wave uber-classic On Yuzuru Agi’s cult Vanity Records imprint.  Allegedly culled from a mountain of demo cassettes piled up on the desk of Rock Magazine, did the quartet of Japanese youngsters have any idea how frighteningly ahead of the game when they made this?  Razor-sharp grooves rolling tight to the millimeter, infused with psychoactive details in the mix - ‘Membership Card’ is a nihilistic chug that doesn’t stray an inch from it’s laser-guided focus, whilst ‘Mix’ is a strange drug-disco stomp without the joyous payoff.  All too cool for school.  Chronology nerds (like me) should note that this release pre-dates the origins of 99 Records (Liquid Liquid, ESG, etc) by a year, which like many other releases on the Vanity label (Tolerance, Sympathy Nervous ++) leaves you wondering HOW were young people making this kinda (incredibly accomplished) music without the internet cross-pollination enjoyed today.  Undeniable holy grail.  (NM - near perfect OG)
