One of the jewels in the seminal Crammed Discs back catalogue, Benjamin Lew & Steven Brown's 'Douzième Journée: Le Verbe, La Parure, L'Amour' - a bit of a tongue twister for the English speakers amongst us. Opener 'Bamako Ou Ailleurs' mixes pretty twisted, heart-of-darkness styled melodies and minimal drums for a sort of Muslimgauze-indebted chug with added SAX, whilst 'Dans Les Jardins' moves into ayahuasca-soaked tribal territory settling up the more delicate and altogether more intimate 'Il, Les Quitta À L'Aube' - a firm favourite at the Microdosing parties (RIP). Like most of the incredible Crammed output, definitely very difficult to categorise this one but one that's only got better with age. (NM/NM )
