The first and almost certainly last time we’ll see Italian composer’s A.R Luciani’s ’71 deep sea library epic L’Acqua N.2 in real life.  An absorbing, mystifying and extremely evocative suite of themes enriched with the endless wonder of THE DEEP BLUE, the late Luciani may have crafted the high-water mark in the surprisingly rich tranche of subaquatic library music LPs, also pursued by the likes of Alessandroni, Tommasi, Tamponi, Vandroogenbroeck et al.  Compositionally the pieces are minimalistic and open, the graceful sustained tones of the flute hang like a like a seahorse suspended in the water, precise melodies on the xylophone suggest intrigue around the corner and the fluttered strings of the harp add to a sense of heady disorientation.  Luciani also isn’t afraid to extend into more avant-garde territory, utilising delay and discreet electronics to create feelings of suspense and tension.  Goes without saying that this is an insanely rare, unusual record and the price reflects that but for the brave (very few) collectors still wading in these deep waters, hopefully this will make someone’s day.  Awe-inspiring.  (NM/VG+ - vinyl clean, sleeve has some ageing on the reverse and slight pencil marks)
