Home-brewed, dream-laced creations from Osaka’s 7F0 via Tokyo’s excellent Conatala label. Creating his own synthetic fantasy land of dubbed-out, transcontinental electronic miniatures, 7Fo use of 90’s KAWAI hardware and FM synthesis creates a sense of a time capsule - where sparse rhythmic interplay locks into glassy, mollifying inorganic melodies. There’s a thread back to Japan’s pioneering 80’s new-age producers in the soft, rounded edges and shimmering electronics - think the dreamworld’s of Inoyama Land or the lounge elegance of Toshifumi Hinata - but 7Fo’s dubwise sound feels more outward looking and contemporary to be just drawing domestically. It plods away on it’s own clock, kinda reminding of some of Tapes’ left-of-centre dubs or that unmistakeable out feeling that the Tax Free crew tap into. A typically classy release from one of Tokyo’s most exciting labels.. (Mint / New - with insert)
