Nostalgic Singhalese folk recordings from Sri Lankan national treasure Rukmani (Daisy) Devi, born in the early 1920 and died in the late 70s. Hard to date these recordings, but probably recorded in the 1940s, originally released in 78 but later published on the little-known Sri Lankan HMV label arm. Devi's distinctive voice is instantly transportive, together with traditional Singhalese percussion and lilting melodies evoking a sense of old-world beauty from the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean'.
