Rare Ainu (indigenous Northern Japanese) folk collection documenting the 'Tonkori', a five string zither instrument widely used by the traditional performers. Parts of the instrument are named after the human body and the crisp sound is said to represent the crisp Northern atmosphere. Wonderfully stripped-back and hypnotic pieces with unusual rhythm and repetition. Some pieces are said to mimic a hungry fox wandering through the frozen tundra. Hard to find anywhere.
