A worldly dream-suite of private folk / new-age pieces from multi-instrumental maestro Takeshi Kobayashi on this genuine snow-leopard LP dispensed via his own Oasis Recordings label in 1981.Seemingly overlooked within his own Japanese homeland and outside, ‘Genso’ is underpinned by Kobayashi’s undeniable stringed-instrument tekkers which is equally comfortable playing easy-going stripped-back acoustic folk or torrentially shredding on the traditional Russian Balalaika guitar. But it’s towards the end of the first side where the theme shifts to a more eastern, ethnically-aware sound with the introduction of indigenous Indonesian flutes and the Sitar, whilst the B-side settles into an epic guitar / tabla medley with subtle synth notes that has just the right a mount of new-age whiff and that unmistakable home-made feel. The home straight reverts back to the acoustic wizardry, recalling any of the greats - Basho, Fahey, even Mickeranno at his most dewy-eyed, ending on a gentle moment of beautiful nostalgia ‘Sugagaki’ with its lingering piano hits recalling the spacious environmental of Japanese ambient poster boy Hiroshi Yoshimura (who was in also involved in the writing of this record). A genuinely special, total one-off release of technical prowess with a uniquely wide-angled view of other cultures.. (NM / NM - with inserts - RARE).
