Sometimes the most unassuming releases cause the biggest ripples. The duo’s 2024 debut YOUMUSTBETIRED, despite being released to almost no fanfare, was one of our uncontested highlights last year. When there’s no fuss, there’s nowhere for the music to hide. This 21-piece collection feels mostly like the duo making stuff for themselves, drifting vacantly between gauzy folk introspection and plaintively picked strings to frigid atmospherics and the occasional scorched wail to pull you out of the muck. Bush’s vocals, when they do occasional come into focus are endlessly captivating and exposed, whilst the occasional maelstrom backwards guitars and thick knots of feedback/delay lend themselves to a disorientating sense of time dilation (accentuated by the fact the whole thing’s over an hour in duration). One of those amazing releases you can continually go around in circles with and never quite know where you are. (Mint / New - with free DL - 1 per person).
