Supreme London label Horn Of Plenty manage to snag a live recording from a recent live performance at the Petersham Bowling Club in Sydney from recent label alumni Warm Currency.
We’re always returning to the Vincent Over The Sink / Bowles / Warm Currency nexus - their totally charming, downer lo-fi pop forever scratching the itch we need scratching, so it’s with no surprise that this one has grabbed us. What stands out immediately is the off-tuning of the venue’s presumably neglected piano, although it’s a happy accident that adds a skewed, and weirdly more intimate view to the songs offered on last year’s record. Other unreleased material seems to coalesce out of little other than a subdued guitar amp hum and tinkered keys and MacDougall’s genuinely captivating vibrato. We’re somewhat staved of these sorts of occasions here in Manchester, so it’s a treat to hear exactly the gig we’d like to be at. Not got many! (Mint / New)
Live at the Petersham Bowling Club was recorded in January 2023 when Warm Currency supported the great Maxine Funke. This offering includes tracks from Returns, our 2022 album on Horn of Plenty, and some unreleased material. We jettisoned our regular keyboard to grapple with the bowling club's cracked piano.
